Tea and seasonal fruit laid out on a dark wood table at baoputang

This moment, once in a lifetime

baoputang

A tea house in the hutongs of Dongcheng, Beijing — near the Mandarin Oriental, a few minutes from Qianmen.

一期一会 usually means: don't waste this moment. We think it means something bigger too — that one ordinary day, lived with real attention, can stand in for a whole life. Our name asks for the same thing: 见素抱朴,少私寡欲 — keep things plain, keep things simple, want little. So we've stayed where we are — 116 West Xinglong Street, open most afternoons, easiest to find if you're already walking past.

This site is where that room extends, quietly, to people further away.
